Gayle Highpine is a retired teacher. She lives on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, with her husband, blues/jazz guitarist/bassist John Paulus. She has no scientific credentials or any other special qualifications for talking about birds, but the birds in her yard have taught her many things. She hopes to demonstrate that anyone, even a kid, can learn from the birds around them and contribute to our knowledge about birds. Her favorite species to study, though, is humans.
